Infographics in The Script are designed to enhance your editorial argument, not replace it. To maintain visual consistency and ensure your data is accessible to all members—including those using screen readers or auto-translation tools—please adhere to the following specifications.
Technical specifications
- Dimensions: 1888px x 1205px.
- Export formats: Prefer SVG or high-resolution PNG.
- Quality: Avoid excessive compression and ensure adequate margins around all elements.
Editorial principles
The primary goal of any graphic is clarity and sobriety.
- Support the text: The article text must fully explain the content of the graphic as if the image did not exist.
- Universal access: While platform text is automatically translated for our international members, text inside images is not. Therefore, the essential argument must remain intact in the body of your article.
Typography and hierarchy
To ensure legibility, we recommend Proxima Nova. If you do not have an Adobe subscription, use the following Google Fonts in order of preference: Inter, Source Sans 3, or IBM Plex Sans.
Strict rules for text inside graphics:
- Minimum size: 44 pt. Never use a font smaller than 44 pt.
- Consistency: Do not use more than three different font sizes in a single graphic.
- Suggested hierarchy:
- Main title: 72–96 pt
- Subtitles or axes: 56–64 pt
- Data and categories: 44–48 pt
Color and background
- Backgrounds: Use sober, solid colors such as white, off-white, light gray, or black. Avoid textures.
- Elements: You may use colors for bars, lines, or highlights, provided there is high contrast.
- Focus: The design should be functional and editorial, not purely decorative.
Identification and captions
Do not include labels like "Figure 1" or "Graphic 2" as text inside the image file. Instead, provide the identification in the body of your article using the following format:
Figure 1. [Descriptive title]
This standard helps with search indexing, translation, and editorial consistency.
Required descriptive text in the article
Your article must describe the data presented, interpret the results, and explain trends or implications.
- Avoid: "The graph below shows that..."
- Prefer: "Between 2020 and 2025, we observed a continuous growth of 35%, with significant acceleration after 2023."
Accessibility and internationalization
As a global publication, we prioritize inclusion:
- Avoid excessive text inside the graphic.
- Do not use unexplained acronyms.
- The Golden Rule: If the graphic were to disappear, your editorial argument must remain completely understandable.
