My name is Alsu Samoilova. I am a psychologist with a master’s degree in psychology, working as a psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapist. I practise transactional analysis under supervision and provide individual consultations for adults and adolescents. I am a contributing writer for the academic journal Transactional Analysis in Russia. I write about psychotherapy, the development of transactional analysis, and the people who are shaping contemporary professional practice. At the centre of my work is a person’s life script: early decisions, family messages, recurring relationship patterns, and ways of coping that may once have helped a person survive but can later become limiting. I am particularly interested in crises, questions of identity, anxiety, inner conflicts, difficulties with separation and individuation, self-destructive strategies, relationships with the body, and the experience of one’s own future. My primary therapeutic method is transactional analysis, which I integrate with a psychoanalytic understanding of personality. What matters to me is the story a person tells about themselves, the relationships they unconsciously recreate, what they fear, what they strive for, and what kind of future they are able to imagine for themselves. I view each person as a complex living system in which memory, the body, emotions, relationships, personal history, and hope are interconnected. I understand that what appears to be weakness or resistance may be an available way of preserving oneself. In therapy, we try to understand what these responses are protecting the person from and what they may need at this particular moment. For me, psychotherapy is a space in which a person can reclaim the right to feel, think, choose, and change their own life. It is a process of restoring connection with one’s desires, boundaries, body, past, and immediate future. I believe that a life script can have great power, but it is not a sentence. A person can reconsider old decisions, create new experiences, and become the author of a story that once seemed to have been written for them by someone else. Sometimes change begins with a simple question: “What kind of future can I create for myself?”
