Readers can now access a key article on AI in TA for free

Free-Access article available from the January 2026 TAJ

All are encouraged to read this timely article and share it with colleagues.

From the January 2026 Transactional Analysis Journal (TAJ) theme issue on “Life of Digital (Dis)connection: The Impact on Society, Groups, and Individuals,” the free-access article is “Generative Artificial Intelligence Use in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy: Transference With the Artificial Third” by Matt Haworth.

This paper explores the implications of using artificial intelligence (AI) tools in transactional analysis psychotherapy. It makes the case for engaging with AI as a creative tool to stimulate self-reflection and dialogue between client and therapist, rather than as a replacement or simple administrative aid. A case vignette and a model of AI transference are offered to illustrate the potential of this technique in illuminating script protocol and exploring impasses.

We encourage all The Script readers to access this TAJ article and use this opportunity to encourage colleagues and friends to learn more about contemporary transactional analysis.

You can find the free-access article on the Taylor & Francis website (accessible for International Transactional Analysis Association members via the ITAA website and to non-members by searching for Transactional Analysis Journal). Look for the green checkmark in the lower right corner.
